The Sunbird Formula special edition package made it's first appearance in the 1977 model year. Pontiac's 'Formula' namesake actually made it's first appearance on the Firebird back in 1970 and followed the Firebird line throughout the '70's. In 1977 the Formula package was expanded to include the Sunbird and it's sister H-Body, the Astre. This package was available for both Sunbird Hatchback and Coupe cars. The package included a blacked-out grill, front air dam and rear spoiler, lower quarter striping with "FORMULA" decals along the base of the doors and on the rear spoiler and a third accent colour stripe immediatly above the lower striping (essentially a tri-colour paint-job). The Formula line continued till the end of Sunbird (and H-Body) production in 1980. The cars could be ordered with a silver/red/black combo, a gold/lt. gold/black or blue/lt. blue/black combo but I'm sure there were others available. Click here for more Formula info.
