First Line
78 - Model Year
1 - GM line (1 - Chevrolet, 2 - Pontiac, 3 - Oldsmobile, 4 - Buick)
H - H-Body (found on all Trim Tags)
R07 - Car Model (see VIN # Decoder)
U - Lordstown Assembly Plant
073053 - Sequential Serial Number (same as last 6 digits of the VIN#)

Second Line
24V - Interior trim colour and type - This is the main colour of the interior, the accent colour, if any, is found on the 3rd line (see RPO Code list)
A51 - Seat type OR Cabriolet/Cordova vinyl roof option code (See RPO Code list)
24L - Exterior paint colour (See RPO Code list)
24U - Exterior paint colour OR Vinyl roof colour (See RPO Code list)

Third Line
10C - Build Date. First 2 digits (always numbers) represent the month of manufacture, the last digit (always a letter) represents the week in that month, therefore 10C is the 3rd week of October.
24X - Interior code - If this number is different from the interior code number on the 2nd line then this number reflects the accent colour, not the main colour of the interior (See RPO Code List)
41 - Represents the week of manufacture.  In this case, due to the car being built the 3rd week of October, this 41 would represent the 41st day of production at the plant. This 2-digit code would cycle to 99 then revert back to 00, instead of 100, and so forth.  Production starts the 3rd week of August.
4281 - Chassis sequence number - Plant use

Fourth Line
110116 - Plant use
02 - Special Edition or Striping designation (always the last 2 digits of the RPO Code, in this case 02 are the last 2 digits of the Z02 Spyder Appearance Package.  You would have to know or look up the 1st digit of the RPO Code in order to have the correct Special Edition or striping option - See RPO Code list)
BLK - Striping or decal colour (BLK - Black, GLD - Gold, WHT - White)

TRIM TAG DECODER
1978 now saw all 2nd Gen. GM H-Body production shift to Lordstown, Ohio where production would remain till the end of the model line in the late fall of 1980.  All 1978 trim tags changed again and were now very similar to those previously found in '75 and '76 U.S. built cars.  "Body by Fisher" was again stamped at the top and the Government conformity label was back at the bottom of the tag (but only for a short time as midway through the '78 model year, the Government conformity statement was no longer present, but the rest of the tag was identical in every other way).  This is also the year where Special Editions, for the most part, could now be readily verified via the trim tag.
