First Line
79 - Model Year
08A -Build Date. First 2 digits (always numbers) represent the month of manufacture, the last digit (always a letter) represents the week in that month, therefore 08A is the 1st week of August.
1 - GM line (1 - Chevrolet, 2 - Pontiac, 3 - Oldsmobile, 4 - Buick)
H - H-Body (found on all Trim Tags)
R07 - Car Model (see VIN # Decoder)
7253769 - The 1st digit, 7, represents the Lordstown Assembly Plant while the following 6 digits, 253769, are the Sequential Serial Number (same as last 6 digits of the VIN#)

Second Line
62J - Interior trim colour and type - This is the main colour of the interior, the accent colour, if any, is found in the 3rd space on the 3rd line (see RPO Code list)
19L - Exterior paint colour (See RPO Code list)
19U - Exterior paint colour OR Vinyl roof colour (See RPO Code list)
55A - Striping or decal colour (See RPO Code list)
L - Lacquer Paint

Third Line
A51 - Seat Code - Always A51 as the H-Body had no other seat options
Space - Reserved for Cabriolet/Cordova RPO Code (See RPO Code List)
Space - Reserved for Interior trim code - This number could be different from the interior trim code number on the 2nd line as this number reflects the accent colour, not the main colour of the interior (See RPO Code List)
Space - Only ever seen a B in this location, what it means is Unknown.
02 - Special Edition or Striping designation (always the last 2 digits of the RPO Code, in this case 02 are the last 2 digits of the Z02 Spyder Appearance Package. You would have to know or look up the 1st digit of the RPO Code in order to have the correct Special Edition or striping option - See RPO Code list)

Fourth Line
28 - Represents the week of manufacture.  In this case, due to the car being built the 3rd week of October, this 28 would represent the 228th day of production at the plant. This 2-digit code would cycle to 99 then revert back to 00, instead of 100, and so forth.  Production starts the 3rd week of August.
6264 - Chassis sequence number - Plant use
1979 TRIM TAG DECODER
1979 TRIM TAG DECODER
TRIM TAG DECODER
1979 trim tags were similar to those used towards the end of the 1978 model year.  'Body by Fisher' was still prominent at the top and the Government conformity label was not present.  The information stamped on the tag was the same but some locations were changed for the '79 model year.  Another slight change was the way striping colours were stamped on the tag.  No longer were 3-letter short forms used to identify colour, an actual RPO Code took its place, just in a different location.  Also note, the dots on this tag represent blank spaces where codes would be inserted if they were required for this vehicle.
